MARPE

MARPE: (Miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expander) Patient age is a significant factor in treatments requiring the expansion of the bone bases, as they become less malleable with age. This expansion involves separating the palatal sutures using a specialized appliance. In adolescents, the palatal suture is already closed (the right and left sides of the palate are fused), making conventional expansion impossible. The alternative method is surgical intervention. Given the complications and high cost of that method, we offer an alternative for adolescents that involves performing the expansion using a small appliance supported by microscrews in the palate.
