MARPE: (Miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expander) The age of the patient is an important factor in treatments that require expansion of the bone bases, the older the patient the less malleable. This expansion consists of separating the palatal sutures with the help of an apparatus. In adolescents the palatal suture is already closed (the right and left part of the palate are fused) and we cannot do this expansion in a conventional way. The alternative method is to perform a surgical intervention. Given the complications and high cost of this method, we offer an alternative for adolescents that consists of performing the expansion through a device supported by some micro-screws in the palate.
