In adults, there is also the possibility of dental deterioration or tooth loss (and even alveolar bone, which is the bone that supports the teeth). Therefore, these patients may require periodontal treatment before, during, and/or after orthodontic treatment. Additionally, bone loss can limit the amount and direction of orthodontic movements that can be performed on the teeth.
